SUMMER AT THE CASPIAN is Firouz FarmanFarmaian’s signature artfilm.

This nostalgic object layers archival super 8mm imagery and cadastral ground plans of confiscated land sourced from his family’s archives - fleeting images of lost happy summers on the Caspian sea as the Iranian Islamic Revolution raged within.

FarmanFarmaian with his videoscape technique applies liquified pigments on glass within the sequence of a live action painting session as the footage is videoprojected on his workshop wall. The recordings of the session are then edited and brought into form.

High definition digital stills are then extracted and brought onto canvas to be painted over formimg a collection of artworks - here produced in the framework oh the 2016 SUMMMER AT THE CASPIAN series.
